Minis are pure garbage. We replaced the engine and turbo in my sister's 2008 with less than 60,000 miles on it. Two years later the gear on the cam slipped since it doesn't have a woodruff key. The valves hit the pistons. Now it's a very expensive lawn ornament. The valves were starting to get carbon buildup on it because it's direct injected. She also spent $800 to service the transmission because it was starting to have problems and it didn't fix the issue. You can't get parts or repairs done at a BMW dealer, you have to go to a Mini Cooper dealer 3 hours away. It has the trifecta turbo, direct injection and a CVT. I refuse to buy a vehicle with any of those three things.

I heard that in Germany, or maybe even Europe, modern cars have to be built with a certain percentage of recycled plastic which would explain why there's so much of that crap in them. Even the valve covers on those minis and BMW's are plastic

We have two MINIs. One is a supercharged 2006 I bought new, and the other is a 2016 All4 Countryman S. We love them! They aren’t cheap to maintain, and my father hates them for the same reason Scotty does. I spent a day changing the fuel filter, because I had to remove the rear seat to get to it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

My wife and I can’t stand Hondas and Toyotas, but after getting a lot of pressure from family and friends not to buy another MINI as a family car, we caved and bought a 4Runner. That was the responsible thing to do...right? We put around $7000 in repairs/maintenance on it, and then we went in and needed the suspension replaced. That was the last straw for us. We never really wanted a Toyota anyway. I’ll say this much...the engine was still under warranty, and we didn’t have issues with it. I realize this isn’t everyone’s experience, but when stuff goes wrong on Japanese cars, they’re expensive as well. I think people need to get what they want when it comes to cars, so we sold the 4Runner and got what we wanted...a Countryman.

We don’t own MINIs, because they’re like Hondas. We buy MINIs, because they’re not like Hondas. The suspensions are rock solid as well. They’re a blast to drive! They’re super safe...not just because of crash testing stats, but because they handle like nothing else. I’ve avoided so many wrecks in these cars due to the handling. We probably will never own anything other than MINIs, and it doesn’t bother me if other people don’t get why. People have opinions, and some people take people’s car opinions personal. I don’t. I’m passionate about cars, and I watch Scotty because he’s passionate about cars. Not everyone will love MINIs like us. Funny story to end this...I was eating with a bunch of friends shortly after buying my 2006 MINI, and one of them saw my MINI in the parking and didn’t know it was mine. She said, “I don’t know who would buy one of those MINIs?! They’re so ugly! I can’t even stand to even look at them!” I laughed and said, “Oh, that’s actually mine.” ...then there was that awkward Office moment that we all hope never happens. 😂

I have a 2006 R53 MINI Cooper S and honestly it runs fine, given how neglected it was by previous owners. With 180,000 miles, I can’t really complain that I have to replace bushings, motor mounts, and gaskets soon.

I did have the service plan so I didn't pay for a single service. I'm on my second Countryman S which is a 2017 model and have over 50,000 thousand miles (my job has me all over Houston) and have done a few services myself without any problems. Consumer Reports has the Mini Countryman (2013-2019) as a very reliable vehicle. Previous generation models not so much. Do your homework when purchasing a vehicle.

My first car, in 1971 was a proper 1960's Austin Mini, with an 850cc engine. An 'Italian Job' Mini. About half the size of the New Mini's too, which are getting even bigger. My second was a VW Beetle - entirely 6-volt, which meant it was a pain finding bulbs and electrical parts for it.

Excellent gpm of 30.5, with over 40 on the highway. Only issue I've had with it is sometimes the power steering acted up. Can't and won't make any complaints, you wanna talk about blown head gaskets talk about subbies. Thing had over 170k miles on it when I got it and still ran in superb condition. I respect Scotty and I've learned a lot about cars from him, but I'm going to have to agree to disagree with him, and that's alright

The MGB had 2 battery wells which made it hard to do the same. The original Lucas batteries were crap. Also the original MGA, MGB were positive earth instead of negative earth.
